Earlier this year I received a commission from Woodson Crew as part of a fundraising package for their team. (More about this program can be found in my Etsy store.)
This rowing club has a unique blade design, in that the back side of the blade is patterned while the front (stern side) is a plain blue. In order to portray their blades best, and to get the puddles in full view, this composition came to mind. It’s a view that would be difficult to have in reality, even from a coaching launch, because generally it’s not a great idea to get in the way of two racing eights! My instructions were to make it graphic, and to make it fun. It was a joy to create a painting with such saturated colors and a more lighthearted mood.
